Hallertauer Mittelfrüh (Mittelfruh) is a classic German landrace variety with fine aroma and low bitter content. Because of its high susceptibility to wilt, Hallertauer Mittelfrüh suffered from a dramatic decrease in cultivation in the 1990s. However, the introduction of virus-free plant material has improved the agronomics of this cultivar, allowing it to reclaim its rightful place as the definitive noble German aroma hop — the benchmark against which all other noble varieties are measured.
