Cascade Hops
Cascade was developed in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) breeding program at Oregon State University and released in 1972. Obtained by crossing an English Fuggle with a male plant derived from the Russian variety Serebrianka, Cascade is characterized by its dark green elongated cone. For many years, Cascade was the definitive hop of American craft brewing — and it remains one of the most iconic and widely used varieties in the world. Its moderate alpha and bright floral-citrus character make it equally at home in the kettle or the dry hop.
